In the coming school year that starts in September, around 400,000 students in 8,000 schools will be offered first aid courses, said Masoud Habibi, head of the Youth Organization of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS), on Monday.

Based on a plan called ‘Dadras’ (literally meaning helper), started five years ago under a MOU between the IRCS and the Education Ministry, each year thousands of students receive training through the IRCS to identify and help in situations where a person’s life may be at risk.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is one of the most important techniques taught to the students. The lifesaving technique is useful in emergencies, including cases of heart attack when a person has no heartbeat.
