A 4.7-magnitude earthquake shook Nahavand county in Hamedan Province on Friday morning, leaving 15 people injured, Said Habib Masumi, head of Hamedan’s Disaster and Emergency Management Center. The tremor occurred 5 kilometers from Nahavand at 5:34 am local time and was registered at a depth of 2 kilometers, ISNA reported. Nahavand is located south of Hamadan, east of Malayer and northwest of Borujerd. Iran sits astride several major seismic faults, and is prone to frequent earthquakes, many of which have been devastating.
