Around 200 motorcycle ambulances will be added to the emergency vehicle fleet in Tehran Province in the next two weeks, according to Pir Hossein Kolivand, the head of Emergency Medical Services. “The motorbikes were imported three months ago, but adding them to emergency fleet was delayed due to delays in custom clearance,” he was quoted by news website Shafaf as saying. Health officials say in many districts in the expanding metropolises, ambulances are not able to reach seriously-ill patients fast enough due to the near permanent traffic congestion. The Health Ministry has long pushed for the addition of motorcycle ambulances to the emergency fleet in big cities.
