Falling off walnut trees during harvesting is the chief cause of spinal cord injuries in Kohgiluyeh-Boyerahmad Province, accounting for 20% of all physical disabilities.

“One in five people with the injury has become disabled due to a tree falling incident,” Khabaronline.ir reported on its channel on smartphone messaging app Telegram.

The greatest number of SCI patients having fallen from a tree is in Boyerahmad, Dena and Choram counties respectively.

There are 8,000 hectares of walnut farms in the province, yielding more than 12,000 tons of crops each year.

The rate of disability in the province is 3% higher than the national average of 2.7%, which is attributed to the widespread prevalence of inter-family marriage.
