Around 60 tons of medical goods were sent to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, for Iranians making the pilgrimage (hajj) to the holy city. According to the head of the Hajj Medical Center at Iran’s Red Crescent Society, this year 22,000 more people are performing hajj compared to two years ago, the last time Iranian pilgrims went to Mecca, IRNA reported. This year, 86,000 Iranians are performing the annual ritual, one of the five pillars of Islam which every able-bodied Muslim who can afford is obliged to undertake at least once in his/her lifetime.
