Local Production of Sanctioned Medical Devices

Iranian companies have been able to produce 27 medical items whose import has been restricted by the US government.

Last February, the US Treasury released a list of 35 medical devices requiring special  authorization from the treasury for export to Iran.  Mostafa Qanei, secretary of the biotechnology headquarters at the Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology Affairs, declared 41 items as being sanctioned.

According to the official, with support from the headquarters, knowledge-based companies have managed to produce 21 of the sanctioned items.

“Besides meeting the needs of the domestic market, these products can be exported,” he said, IRNA reported.   The HQ will also support efforts to produce other items on the list.

Some of the devices include oxygen generators and diagnostic medical imaging equipment.
