Around 3,500 organ transplant operations were performed in Iran in the last fiscal that ended in March, according to the director of the Health Ministry’s Organ Transplant Management Office. Speaking on the sidelines of the 2nd National Festival & International Congress on Stem Cell & Regenerative Medicine (July 13-15) in Tehran, Mohammad Kazemeyni said bone marrow transplants made up about a third of transplant surgeries (1,040), IRNA reported.  The 3,500 figure does not include cornea and tissue transplant.  There are 17 facilities in Iran which provide bone marrow transplant.
