Tehran’s Baqiyatallah and Najmiyeh hospitals have pledged to set aside two or three beds for epidermolysis bullosa patients to facilitate their admission.

As these groups often suffer multiple dental problems, the dentistry sections of the hospitals will also offer special services to EB patients, Mehr News Agency reported.

The same services will be offered in hospitals of provincial capitals so that patients will not have to travel to Tehran for treatment.

Epidermolysis bullosa is the name given to a group of inherited connective tissue diseases that causes blisters in the skin and mucosal membranes. Butterfly Children is a term often used to describe younger patients because the skin is said to be as fragile as a butterfly’s wings.

It is estimated that 500 people suffer from EB in Iran.
