A Health Ministry official has said that door-to-door polio vaccination is carried out in high-risk areas to immunize 6 million children under the age of 5 against crippling diseases.

Based on the ministry’s timetable, the vaccines must be administered in 12 stages, ISNA reported.

According to Dr Mohammad Mehdi Gouya, the head of the Health Ministry’s Center for Communicable Disease Control, there have been no reports of wild poliovirus for 17 years.

“Last year, 2 million children between the ages of 9 months to 15 years old received measles vaccination,” he said, adding that polio and Haemophilus influenza vaccines have been included in infants’ immunization schedule.
