The city of Arak in Markazi Province has earmarked 120 billion rials ($3.1 million) to combat air pollution in the metropolis, according to the governor of Arak County. “The budget will be distributed to relevant entities in the very near future,” Hossein Bakhtiari was quoted by ISNA as saying. The “Car-Free Tuesday” campaign, which aims to encourage people to ditch their private vehicles every Tuesday in favor of public transportation, originated in the industrial city of Arak, where air quality drops frequently.
