During the past two years, the Iranian Red Crescent Society has conducted 2,397 rescue operations in the country’s mountainous regions, according to Shahin Fat’hi, deputy head of operations at IRCS’s Relief and Rescue Organization.

“The society has established 55 stations in mountainous regions to provide rescue operations to climbers,” he said on Saturday, ISNA reported. According to the official, looking for missing mountaineers made up 47% of all operations, while 37% involved helping climbers suffering from injuries sustained as a result of falls, IRNA reported.

The top three provinces with the highest number of registered rescue operations were Tehran (415), Mazandaran (251), and Fars (250), Fat’hi said.
