A combination of poor salaries, heavy workload and lack of facilities deters many medical graduates from pursuing careers at the coroner’s office. “Many have even passed the forensic medicine exam, but are not willing to work in the sector,” Seyyed Ahmad Shojaei, head of Iran’s Legal Medicine Organization, was quoted by IRNA as saying. He said the disinterest has further increased the workload of those working in the sector, but they’re not compensated adequately, which again is a deterrent for those who might consider a career in the sector. It is, in a nutshell, a vicious cycle.”The workload in Tehran is worse than in most places,” Shojaei added.
