Following the recent dust storms (June 10- July 2) in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan, the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) distributed 4,247 food baskets among those affected.

The food packages were handed out in 59 villages in Zabol, Zehak, Nimrouz, and Hirmand counties, which were severely impacted by the phenomenon, said Morteza Salimi, head of the relief and rescue team at IRCS, on Monday, ISNA reported.

He said the packages “helped 20,654 people.”

Dust storms have wreaked havoc in the south and southwestern provinces. Drying wetlands in southeastern Iran (such as the Hamouns) have become major sources of sand and dust storms.
