Donations by philanthropists in the health sector are mostly used for building  hospitals and clinics and providing medicine, but “we are also interested in directing such financial contributions towards preventive, educational and research activities in healthcare,” said Dr. Seyed Mohammad Hadi Ayazi, social deputy at the Health Ministry.

He called for more research in vaccine production through contributions made by benefactors, ISNA reported.

Health research has high value to society. It can provide important information about disease trends and risk factors, outcomes of treatment or public health interventions, patterns of care, and healthcare costs.

Improving the use of drugs, vaccines, medical devices, and diagnostics through collective research have led to significant discoveries, the development of new therapies, and a remarkable improvement in healthcare and public health.

Ayazi stressed the importance of greater funding for health research through charitable contributions, noting that the ministry allocates some funds from its budget for the purpose. “There are 600 research centers in the field and the government supports their projects. But we would like to encourage contributions by benefactors in the field of health treatment.”

The Nastaran Center for Cancer Prevention, which is in Mashhad, capital of Khorasan Razavi Province, will host the third symposium for cancer prevention from November 22-24, to provide a platform to discuss the rising incidence of cancer in the country, he said.

NCCP is a national non-profit organization that aims to “eradicate cancer” and provide a platform for national and international institutions that are striving to defeat the disease.

The center holds annual international symposiums since 2015. It also organizes smaller cancer awareness seminars in collaboration with Ferdowsi University of Mashhad and Mashhad University of Medical Sciences.
