Around six trillion rials ($160 million) in Iran’s domestic pharmaceutical market pertains to the production of herbal medicines, a nearly twofold increase in the past four years. The government’s support of knowledge-based organizations is the main reason for the improvement. Nearly 120 registered knowledge-based companies are currently working in the field of traditional medicine in the country, IRNA reported. “We now have the knowledge, raw materials and public awareness and will move in the direction of development of traditional medicine to improve the chances of job creation and investment in the sector,” said Health Minister Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi.
