Traffic on the Karaj-Chalus road that connects Tehran to the northern holiday resorts will be restricted to one-way for specified hours from June 30-31, said Alborz Province Traffic Police Chief Colonel Reza Goudarzi.
“The road will be closed for traffic from south to north, that is from Karaj in Alborz Province to Marzanabad in Mazandaran Province from 12 pm on Friday to 3 am on Saturday,” IRNA quoted him as saying on Wednesday.
The measure is to help facilitate people returning to Tehran from the northern provinces and prevent traffic snarls that have become a permanent feature of the much-traveled narrow roadway.
During the two-day Eid al-Fitr holiday (June 26-27), a large number of people left for the popular northern tourist areas and the Caspian Sea coast, and are expected to return over the Iranian weekend.
