4.3 Richter Quake in Ardebil

An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale jolted the city of Khalkhal in the northwest Ardebil Province early Tuesday at 4:30 am. The quake’s epicenter was five km from Khalkhal and was registered at a depth of 8 km, IRNA reported. Two people were injured reports said, and minor cracks have appeared on some of the buildings and urban structures. Iran sits astride several major seismic faults, and is prone to frequent earthquakes, many of which have been devastating.
