Over 3 Tons of Drugs Seized in Tehran

Western Tehran police forces have seized 3.5 tons of drugs and snared 19 drug distribution gangs over the past three months.  The amount of seized narcotics, including opium, morphine, hashish, heroine and other types of drugs, has increased by 3% compared with the same period last year, according to Mohsen Khancherli, police commander for the west of Tehran Province. The official added that more than 1,300 smugglers as well as nearly 1,400 drug “carriers” have been identified and arrested in six western counties of Tehran Province during this period, Borna News Agency reported. “The arrestments have also seen a 2% increase as compared with the same period last year,” he said.
