Currently, there are more than seven million children under the age of five in Iran, of whom only a quarter attend kindergartens, said Habibollah Masoudi Farid, social deputy at the State Welfare Organization (SWO). “Early years of life are critical for the healthy cognitive, emotional, and physical growth of children, and the environment has a significant impact on determining how children’s brains grow and develop,” he said, IRNA reported. He added that the number of words young children hear and learn in kindergartens is more than what they hear and learn at home. There are more than 16,200 kindergartens across the country.
