Protected area zones in the country will increase, and according to global indicators, each country should earmark 17% of its land area as protected zones by the year 2020, Masoumeh Ebtekar, head of the Department of Environment (DoE) said.
“In this regard we are making all efforts to increase the number of rangers and provide adequate equipment,” Mehr News Agency quoted her as saying.
Protected areas can provide multiple benefits for biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. They are widely recognized as a major tool for the conservation of species and ecosystems.
