The number of Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) helicopters increased to 23 last year (ended March 20) from the previous 17, said Amirhossein Ziaee, head of IRCS, on Wednesday. Prior to 2013 when the current government took office, IRCS had 16 helicopters, he said, ISNA reported. Ziaee who met Mohammad-Baqer Nobakht, head of the Management and Planning Organization (MPO) on Monday, said he had agreed to provide financial assistance to the society, which spent more than $7.5 million (300 billion rials) on providing food, tents, and shelter to people affected by the recent flooding and earthquakes in different parts of the country.
