Nearly 40% of Iranians suffer from fatty liver disease which if left untreated can lead to inflammation and cirrhosis of the liver, said Mehran Zamanzadeh, endocrinologist and member of the Iranian Diabetes Society. While some fat in liver is normal, if it makes up more than 5%-10% of the organ’s weight, it can cause many health complications. Zamanzadeh urged people to eat a balanced diet and get regular exercise to prevent fatty liver disease, ILNA reported. According to official figures, 30% of Iranians between the ages 15-64 do not exercise at all while they should at least take a 30-minute brisk walk every day. Routine exercise can prevent liver fat accumulation.
