The import of serums has been stopped in the country as Iran is currently meeting the local demand via domestically produced products, according to a statement by the Food and Drug Administration.
“Intravenous serums were imported in 2015 and 2016 since two of the main producers shut down in the aftermath of sanctions,” said the FDA, as reported by the Health Ministry’s news agency ‘Webda’.
Iran is now meeting the need for serums through five major local companies. The statement highlighted that medicine imports have seen a 20% decrease currently compared with the tenure of the previous government, saving the country up to $500 million over the past four years.
