The pilot program for colorectal cancer screening is underway in Deyr County, Bushehr Province, said Adel Moqaddas, head of the county’s Health and Treatment Office.

“The screening services are offered free of charge. But treatment is not free for those diagnosed with the disease,” IRNA quoted him as saying.

“Early diagnosis of the cancer can increase chances of survival,” he said.  People aged 50-69 are screened under the pilot scheme, and once it takes off nationwide, “30% of the people should be screened in the first year,” he added.

Symptoms of colorectal cancer include fatigue, shortness of breath, change in bowel habits, and abdominal pain. Diagnostic tests are necessary to detect the disease.
