For the first time in the country, hypnosurgery on a 32-year-old man was performed successfully at Imam Reza Hospital in Mashhad, capital of Khorsan Razavi Provimce.
Dr. Mehdi Fathi, associate professor at the Department of Anesthesiology of University of Medical Sciences in Mashhad said, “Two four-hole plates were removed from the metatarsal bone of the man without using anesthesia,” Mehr News Agency reported.
Fathi noted that the patient’s level of consciousness during the surgery was high, “indicating that the patient was fully aware but didn’t feel any pain.”
“During the surgery, no sign of pain or painful reactions were seen and the ECG, heart rate, blood pressure remained stable,” he said.
In cases where the use of anesthetics is prohibited or restricted, “patients between the ages of 4-60 can opt for the hypnotic method after psychological counseling,” he said.
