Health Minister Seyed Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi leaves on Tuesday to take part in the 70th session of the World Health Assembly (May 22–31) in Geneva. The minister will return on May 26, said Dr Iraj Harirchi, deputy minister of health.
In the presence of delegations from member states of the World Health Organization, the health assembly, which is the decision-making body of the WHO, determines organizational policies and approves the budget of the proposed programs. This year, member states will also elect the new WHO director-general on May 23, IRNA reported.
Dr Margaret Chan has headed the global health watchdog for the last two five-year terms.
