Explosion of a land mine, a remnant of the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war, in a rural area in Qasr-e-Shirin County in Kermanshah Province, injured one person on Monday.

“The young shepherd, 28, was doing his regular chores at midnight in the fields around Qasr-e-Shirin when he stepped on a mine and was badly injured in the blast,” said county police chief, Colonel Enayat Fallahi, IRNA reported.

Over 12 mine blasts since the beginning of the current calendar year (March 21) have killed one and injured 12 others, IRNA reported. Last year, 20 landmine explosions in the county killed two people and injured 35 others.

At present, two landmine clearing companies, affiliated to the Ministry of Defense, with nine teams of 30 experts are combing possible mine-ridden areas in the western city.
