Tea is the most popular beverage in the country. It can be said almost all Iranians drink tea at least once a day.
Using flavors which don’t contain sugar is the best choice for diabetic patients. Herbal ingredients including mint or peppermint distillate, cardamom and cinnamon can make tea tasty requiring no sugar. Especially cinnamon which has proved its hypoglycemic effect is a perfect choice for people with diabetes, reports Salamat news agency.
Tea is also taken with dates, which are rich in fiber, vitamins and minerals. High amount of fiber in dates reduces the rate of glucose absorption and prevents large fluctuations in blood sugar; thus there is less pressure on the pancreas to secrete insulin. However, excess consumption of dates is not recommended because they contain sugar.
