Iranian coast guards seized over 685 kilograms of heroin en route to Jordan, said Saeed Komeili, commander of Border Guards Headquarters located in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan, on Monday.

Coast guards seized the heroin and 150,000 liters of smuggled fuel in waters off the coasts of Makran in the province, he said, Mizanonline reported.

He added that 10 smugglers were arrested in the operations and the two vessels carrying the contraband were confiscated.

Iran, which has a 900-kilometer common border with Afghanistan, has been used as the main conduit for smuggling Afghan drugs to narcotics kingpins in Europe.
