Focus on Family Role

This year’s International Day of Families (observed globally on May 15) focuses on the role of families and family-oriented policies in promoting education and overall wellbeing of their members, according to the online portal of the Vice Presidency for Women and Family Affairs. Proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 1993, the occasion reflects the importance attached to families by the international community, providing an opportunity to promote awareness on issues relating to families and the social, economic and demographic processes affecting them. A growing concern among families in and outside Iran is the phenomenon of social networks and their impact on quality family time. Another concern is the little time working parents have to spend with their children.  According to the portal, Iranian families spend roughly only 17 minutes talking to each other on a daily average.
