Thirteen rapid response teams will be formed and trained by the end of the current Iranian year in March 2018, said Morteza Salimi, head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society’s Relief and Rescue Organization.

“Iran is one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world and a wide range of natural calamities such as earthquakes, floods and drought have hit the country over the past several years,” he told ISNA on the occasion of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day (May 10) which marked the beginning of Red Crescent Week in Iran.

It has so far trained over 500 personnel in rapid emergency response systems (RERS) as part of a multilevel plan to beef up its emergency services.

The IRCS is a member of the International Society for Rapid Response Systems (ISRRS), an international organization supporting rapid response systems across the globe via education and standards setting, and the promotion of high quality research.
