A major rescue operation has been launched in the western province of Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari after four women were reported missing following flash floods in Lordegan village on Sunday evening.

“Rescuers are still looking for the victims in piles of debris that collected after  flood waters swept through the village,” said Behnam Saeedi, spokesman of the Crisis Management Organization, IRNA reported.

According to the official, six women were near the riverside when the flash floods occurred. Two of them managed to survive, but the other four went missing.

The huge piles of mud and large rocks have hampered the search operations. Contingency services have been provided to more than 600 flood-affected people in the province, he said.

Many regions in Iran have been hit by flash floods over the past month due to torrential spring downpours. Last month, heavy rains caused flash floods in four northwestern provinces, affecting more than 1,000 people. More than 40 people died in the floods in East and West Azarbaijan, Kurdestan, and Zanjan.
