The agriculture jihad ministry says the banning of rice cultivation in all parts of the country except in the Caspian Sea border regions and the northern provinces, which are rich in water resources, will be enforced in the near future. Rice plantations consume 4,000 liters of water for every 1kg of rice produced.
At present, despite the water crisis in many parts of the country, rice is cultivated in many arid and semi-arid provinces including Isfahan and Sistan Baluchestan, Iranian Agricultural News Agency (IANA) reported.
