Under a memorandum of understanding between the Belgian Ghent University and Shiraz University of Iran, the two universities will grant joint PhD degrees in a number of fields including veterinary sciences.

“Ghent University has a high global ranking, 117 in The Times Higher Education university rankings and 52 in The Times Higher Education European university rankings,” said Shiraz University faculty member Siavash Soltanian.

To receive the joint PhD degrees, students will do the main part of their research in Shiraz, and spend six months in Belgium for the remaining part, Mehr News Agency reported.Shiraz University was founded in 1954 with the addition of the College of Engineering and College of Veterinary Medicine. Ghent University, established in 1817, is a public research university located in Ghent, Belgium. It is one of the largest Flemish universities, consisting of 41,000 students and 9,000 staff members.
