There are 360,000 Afghan students studying in schools and 18,000 in universities across Iran, said Ahmad Mohammadi-Far, head of the Interior Ministry’s Bureau for Aliens and Foreign Immigrants (BAFIA), on Thursday. “About 77,000 of them are children of illegal immigrants,” he told ISNA. In April 2015, the Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei instructed all Iranian schools to enroll Afghan children regardless of their legal status. He decreed that no Afghan, including undocumented or illegal refugees, should be deprived of public education.
