A German neurosurgeon will visit Iran in July to examine and operate some  injured war veterans, said director general of the Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs.

“On the invitation of the foundation, Prof. Walter Stummer will perform tests and surgeries on war veterans suffering from neurological problems,” said Iraj Arabi, Mehr News Agency reported.

“His work will follow that of Prof. Hassan Mahdian, a spine surgery specialist from the UK, who came to Iran in early April for the same purpose.”

Inviting distinguished specialists from across the world is one of the programs on the Health Ministry’s agenda in cooperation with the foundation to help war veterans and their families.

There are 546,108 war veterans suffering from mild to severe injuries sustained during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war in which a million people died on both sides.
