Traffic fines and tickets are updated every three years after consultations with the traffic police and the ministry of interior. The new penalty slabs have been sent to the government and are being studied. After completion of all legal steps, they will be ratified, secretary of the Supreme Council of Traffic Mahdi Yadi Hamedani said.
The official further said that the interior ministry and not the supreme council ratifies the penalties. The annual inflation rates are also considered in traffic fines revision, which was last conducted in 2011.
The main purpose of raising penalties is to prevent people from committing traffic violations, and not seek to raise revenues by this means, the official clarified.
