Iran is a disaster-prone country and on average, 2,900 individuals lose their lives in natural disasters per year, said Ali Ardalan, director general of the Health Ministry’s Office to Control Effects of Natural Disasters, on Monday.

“In the recent flash floods in the northwestern and western provinces of the country, 42 people lost their lives, 12 were injured and some people still remain missing,” IRNA quoted him as saying.

Around 32 towns and villages in the provinces of East Azarbaijan, West Azarbaijan, Kordestan, Mazandaran, and Zanjan were severely affected by the floods. East Azarbaijan and West Azarbaijan had the highest casualties while the cities of Ajabshir and Azarshahr were the worst hit.
