The latest national census by the Statistical Center of Iran indicates that the country’s population is below 80 million, standing at 79,926,270, with 51% men and 49% women. The overall number of Iranian households was 24,196,035, with 3.3 persons on average per household. In the urban areas, the average number of people per household was 3.3 persons, and in the rural areas the figure was 3.4, according to the SCI website. The average population growth of the country between 2011 and 2016 was estimated at 1.24% (955,320 each year), with Southern Khorasan and Bushehr provinces at the top, and Hamdedan and Northern Khorasan provinces at the bottom, according to the SCI.
