Iranian Researchers at Arak University, in Markazi Province, have produced a type of nanocomposite hydrogel (NC gel) with self-healing properties that can be used in cancer treatment procedures. “These hydrogels are able to heal themselves in case of injury without the need for outside involvement,” project manager Dr. Alireza Karimi said. The hydrogel has applications in photodynamic therapy for cancer and injuries of soft tissues such as the skin, as well as in targeted drug delivery, he said. “The self-healing hydrogels have the ability to modify their forms due to their elasticity and return to their original state once the tension is removed.” According to researchers, the produced structure can act as a nanoreactor and has applications in various medical fields, gas separation and energy storage. The results of the research have been published in the American journal of ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces, Mehr News Agency reported.
