In the first 11 months of the current year (ends March 20), a total of 20,000 small residential units were allocated to mostly elderly people and the disabled under coverage of the Imam Khomeini Relief Committee.

There are 150,000 more people who are in need of housing, said Ebrahim Bazian, director general of IKRC Housing and Civil Engineering Office. The number of beneficiaries under coverage of the IKRC has reduced by 5% over the past two years when 4.5 million people were under coverage, thanks to empowerment programs for the target population. IKRC and the State Welfare Organization have a mandate to uplift the poor through empowerment programs and vocational training and other measures.  “We now have a little over four million to support,” Parviz Fattah, IKRC head, had earlier said.
