Since the beginning of current year that ends in March, 13,421 homeless male addicts were rounded up in 52 raids, of whom 4,249 were confined for treatment of infectious viral diseases, and the rest were sent to compulsory rehab shelters, said Colonel Mohammad Masoud Zahedian, anti-narcotics police chief on Saturday. Most of the addicts were rounded up from Harandi neighborhood in District 12 of Tehran Municipality, IRNA quoted him as saying. Stating that the capacity of the rehab camps has been increased considerably, he said raids in some other neighborhoods including Shoosh in District 12 will also be conducted soon to round up addicts.
