In the next year’s budget for Tehran Municipality, a total of 80 billion rials ($2.1 million) has been allocated to house homeless women and their children in the capital city. The proposal for the allocation was made by Tehran City Council member Fatemeh Daneshvar. “The money will be spent on building a center in eastern Tehran, where homeless women can be housed and their children cared for,” she said, Borna News Agency reported. She estimates there are 1,500 homeless women dwelling on the city streets. The center is expected to be inaugurated soon after the current year ends on March 20.
