Iran has been conferred the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) award for achieving the first and most important Millennium Development Goal of reducing the number of people who suffer from hunger. FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva delivered the honorary award to Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the FAO Seyyed Aminollah Taghavi, Mehr News agency reported.

“Based on FAO annual estimates released in its report ‘The State of Food Insecurity in the World (SOFI),’ the Islamic Republic of Iran has succeeded in reducing the number of people who suffer from hunger to below five percent between the years 2012 and 2014,” Iran’s envoy to the FAO said.
