A magnitude 4.2 earthquake jolted Kahnouj village in the southern part of the southeast Kerman Province, early Wednesday.

According to the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the tremor occurred 4 km from Kahnouj at 5:27 am local time and was registered at a depth of 28 km, IRNA reported.

There were no reports of casualties or severe damage to residential units. Last week, the village was hit by severe flooding which destroyed 17 residential buildings, and emergency shelters were provided to the flood-stricken families.

Iran sits astride several major seismic faults, and is prone to frequent earthquakes.
