The Second National Conference on Urban Fire Service and Safety opened on Wednesday in Tehran, with particular focus on the January 19 Plasco fire tragedy in the capital that led to the building collapse and death of 16 firemen and four civilians.

The two-day conference at the International Convention Hall of the Oil Industry Research Center, will discuss several topics such as urban engineering and safety; urban fire safety regulations; fire spread in urban environments after natural disasters; land subsidence monitoring and evacuation; and unified urban fire and safety management. 

Participants will also review fire and emergency management technology and city infrastructures, with focus on smart urban fire services, ISNA reports.

Delegates from Australia, Finland, Austria, France, Spain, Switzerland, and the Netherlands will share views on the social, economic and environmental aspects of urban safety, such as public education, environmental concerns, safety culture and the safety of vulnerable populations.
