Iran ranks 8th worldwide and 2nd in the region in terms of traffic-related deaths, said Mohammad Aqajan, deputy health minister. “Although the rate of traffic casualties is seeing a declining trend in the country, we have to accept that over 16,000 annual deaths is still a high number,” he said at a conference on trauma at Iran University of Medical Sciences in Tehran on Monday. The Health Ministry has envisaged a plan to reduce traffic-related deaths in 10 years by 20%. The plan contains eight strategic goals and 64 targets and will soon be unveiled, IRNA reported.
