Iranian men live about two years less than women and have higher death rates.

“Currently, 28% of men are overweight, 10% are obese, 4% have high blood triglycerides, 21% smoke every day, and 60% don’t have enough physical activity,” said Mohammad Esmaeil Motalq, director general of the Health Ministry’s Office for Population Health, Family and Schools.

The three top leading causes of death in men under age 60 include ischemic heart attack, road accidents, and brain stroke. “Men become disabled or die from road crashes at a rate five times more than women,” he said, IRNA reported.

“We plan to reduce men’s mortality rates by 20% by the end of the five-year economic development plan (2016-21),” he added.
