Health Facilities in Outlying Areas

In order to improve healthcare and sanitation facilities at informal settlements, the Health Ministry has established one health center with a health expert for every 4,000 people living in city fringes. 

“So far under the scheme, 10.2 million people living in informal settlements within and around the cities have been covered,” said Ali Akbar Sayyari, deputy minister of health on Tuesday.  During the past three years, the government has spent $375 million (15,000 billion rials) for improving access to healthcare services for all people living in the country. “This is a 7-fold increase over the amount spent by the previous administration of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (2005-2013),” IRNA quoted him as saying.
