The State Welfare Organization is piloting a project to provide hearing impaired people under its coverage, with an emergency translator. “Under the project, the SWO will train people in sign language to accommodate the hearing impaired in urgent situations where they need to communicate with others,” said Reza Gholami, head of the workgroup for people with hearing impairment at the SWO. The situations may include courtrooms, hospitals, or any administrative office or state organization where they might need to communicate effectively with people who are not familiar with sign language, he said. The scheme was tested in Khorasan Razavi Province for the first time, IRNA reported.
